of founder identity in entrepreneurship. Academy of Management Journal, 54(5), 935-957.
The article explores how founders’ social identities shape the creation and development of
new firms. Using social identity theory (key social aspects shape behaviour) and studying 49
sports-equipment entrepreneurs, the authors identify three core founder identity types, each
linked to distinct motivations, behaviours, and firm characteristics.
Three Founder Identity Types:
