The MAHA Report: A
Solution to a Crisis or a
Crisis Itself?

In September, the White House issued The
MAHA [Make America Healthy Again]
Report. The underlying claim of this report is
that chronic diseases, especially in children,
have been flourishing in the United States
and constitute a crisis in our country.
The report
maintains that
confronting the
root causes of
diseases, and not
just the symptoms,
would help
Americans live

healthier lives. This
suggests that
healthcare providers are failing to diagnose
diseases but then are trying to treat them. In
fact, the opposite is suggested by several
studies indicating that too many healthcare
dollars are being spent on diagnostic
testing. It is estimated that 4-5 billion tests
are ordered in the United States every year.
Some studies indicate that over 40% of
these tests may be “unnecessary.”
