Drafting a Process Evaluation
Summary of the Program
Mental health awareness and care coordination support programs were utilized to address
veterans' delayed to seek mental health help. It was noted that the Veterans' delayed to seek help
is influenced by factors such as stigma and misconceptions about mental health treatment, where
veterans avoid or delay treatment because they fear being perceived negatively. It was also noted
that some veterans were reluctant to seek help because they were in denial of their conditions, and
some worried that support agencies would interfere with their retirement plans. The program aimed
, 2
to limit stigma and negative perceptions by addressing the common misconceptions about mental
help-seeking among veterans. Through education and information dissemination, the program will
inform veterans and the community about identifying symptoms of mental health challenges, how
to seek help, and the importance of seeking help.
Importance of Process Evaluation
Process evaluation involves monitoring the viability of an implemented program (Dudley,
2020). Evaluating the efficiency of this program will seek to establish whether the awareness
creation and care coordination is reaching the intended populations, that is, veterans, the
community, and the healthcare staff. The evaluation will also verify whether the program is being
implemented as proposed, for instance, whether the campaigns, workshops, and training programs
are being conducted or are passing the intended information. The evaluation will also be performed
to ensure accountability for the resources allocated. TSNE (2018) argues that program evaluations
establish accountability by ensuring the allocated resources are utilized as intended. Organizations
conduct process evaluations to ensure the target population benefits and received quality tangible
services.
Type of Process Evaluation and Stage of Implementation
The evaluation will be done at the implementation phase, particularly at the delivery stage.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, evaluation at this stage establishes
whether the program activities are being implemented as desired. The delivery stage was chosen
because awareness creation involves offering training and education, hence the need to ensure that
the correct information is passed to the target population. The evaluation will establish whether
the program activities adhere to mental awareness guidelines and frameworks as intended.
