Moderate or severe bulging of TM or new onset otorrhea (drainage)
not due to otitis externa.
Mild bulging TM AND recent (<48hr) onset of otalgia (earache) or
intense redness of the TM.
A patient comes in to the office and needs Vancomycin to treat their
C-Diff, but due to their former NP over RX the medication, they are
now resistant to the class of medication. What other class of drug

A 18yo comes into the clinic with c/o of cold symptoms ( cough,
sneezing, congestion, and lethargy. What type of abx would you write
for this patient? - ANSWERS-NONE- this is more than likely viral.
A 10 yo male comes to the clinic with reports of a high fever and
tonsillar exudate. Would these symptoms indicated a strep swab? -
ANSWERS-Yes. The patient has to have 2 of the following to warrant
a strep screen for the c/o of sore throat.

A mom comes to the clinic with her 3 yo child who complains of right
ear pain x 2 days, no redness, drainage, or bulging TM noted. She is
insisting on an abx. What should you teach the mom? - ANSWERS-
Abx aren't indicated at this time, upon assessment of the child no
redness, drainage, or bulging on the TM noted. This should resolve in
2-7 days. You can treat the pain with OTC Tylenol or Motrin. Please
come back in week if symptoms don't improve and we will check
again.
