Classic symptoms of flu - ANS fever
cough
muscle aches (myalgias)
fatigue
In what timeframe from onset of flu symptoms should you start antivirals? - ANS
ideally within 24 hours, but best results generally if you start within 24-48 hours
of disease onset
Influenza treatment - ANS Antiviral if indicated
Tylenol as needed for fever, headache and myalgia
Dextromethorphan/guaifenesin as needed for cough
Rest & hydration
Avoid contact with others, hand hygiene

When should someone return to the clinic after being diagnoses with flu? - ANS
F/u if symptoms do not improve within 48 hours, if headache worsens or if SOB
develops
When should you do flu testing? - ANS Usually influenza is a clinical diagnosis.
But you should test:
if it will change your management
if the person is hospitalized
if it will prevent unnecessary antibiotics
if it will help prevent disease transmission (ex. communal living)

severe illness
