1.1. Explain what is understood by prenatal development in your own words.



In humans, prenatal development, also referred as antenatal development, is the
procedure that spans the time between the formation of an embryo to the delivery of
a fetus or parturition.

The human embryo starts to develop after fertilization then proceeds as fetal
development. The embryo has gained its basic form and therefore is known as a fetus
at the end of the 10th week of conception. The following stage is fetal development,
during which numerous organs fully develop. This fetal phase is divided into two
sections: thematically by organ as well as chronologically by time, with significant
events noted according to gestational age.



1.2. Identify and explain the three phases of prenatal development in your own
words.



The germination phase:



The germinal phase lasts 2 weeks but first begins with conception. Conception occurs
whenever egg and sperm cells merge together to create a zygote which is referred to
as a fertilized egg. The Genetics (DNA), sex, as well as make-up of the infant are all
established during this early stage, once the fertilized egg is simply a one-cell
structure. The zygote starts migrating towards to the uterus through the fallopian tube
hours after conception which takes about a week. Throughout this period, the zygote's
cells are going through mitosis and becoming larger by the second.

The cells divide to form a placenta, umbilical cord, plus organs as they proliferate.
When a cell differentiates, it becomes a more specialized form of cell with a distinct
