Consider the current healthcare delivery models and practice settings. Reflect on
how nursing practice is transforming in response to the current demands of the
healthcare system and answer one of the following questions:
1.What differentiates the practice of a master's-prepared nurse compared to
that of a baccalaureate-prepared nurse?
2.What is the value of a master's degree in nursing?
3.What do you consider to be the most essential professional competency for
a master's-prepared nurse practicing in the 21st century?\
What differentiates the practice of a master's-prepared nurse compared to that of
a baccalaureate-prepared nurse?
An individual with BSN or baccalaureate-prepared nurse has a wide range of education,
which helps them assemble for entry-level practice in the hospitals, clinics, and other
health care settings. BSN is required to focus on critical thinking, guiding nurses to
make informed decisions about patient care (Wagner et al., 2020). Nurses with BSN are
more hands-on with their skills and patient care. Nurses develop communication,
interpersonal relationships, problem-solving, and professional judgment, which show
assurance and hope in their competence and take the time to communicate information
to patients accurately. Hence, they recognize their plan of care and the interventions.
On the other hand, MSN or master's prepared nurse is an exceptional degree that will
contribute the skills and advance training for a specialized role such as nurse
practitioners, nursing administrations, nurse educators, nurse anesthetists, and much
more. MSN nurses are experienced in demonstrating extraordinary leadership in
remodeling care quality in the central area of practice (Clark et al., 2015). The
autonomy given to a master's prepared nurse is much higher than the one given to the
BSN nurses (Clark et al., 2015).
What is the value of a master's degree in nursing?
A master’s degree in nursing gives nurses a better understanding of the assessments,
interventions, and care plan. Also, having a master’s degree prepares nurses to have
better critical thinking and make better clinical decisions. Critical thinking plays major
role in training and education, not just with MSN but also with BSN (Ali-Abadi et al.,
2020). I believe getting an MSN offers plenty of opportunities and benefits but comes
with significant responsibilities. An MSN, a person, has a wide range of career
opportunities, which helps nurses make a positive difference and play essential roles in
