- What are the characteristics of organization that distinguish them from no-
organizations?
o Goal orientation: organizations are geared towards specific purposes. These
purposes do not have to identical with the personal purposes of organization
members.
o Division of labor/tasks: organizations consist of several people (…) whose
task activities are divided and linked according to an intended rational
pattern (…).
o Permanent boundaries: organizations have boundaries that allow for
differentiating between the organizational inner and out world. What belong
to organisation and what not can be clearly seen.

environment of the company
o Industry/sector
o Competitors and markets
