1.1 The Teacher as a Professional
A. Definition of a Professional Educator
A professional educator is an individual who demonstrates competence, commitment,
and ethical integrity in fulfilling their teaching duties. This includes applying specialized
knowledge, adhering to educational policies and ethical codes such as the SACE Code
of Professional Ethics, and maintaining accountability for learners’ holistic development.
A professional teacher upholds high moral standards, respects diversity, and
continuously reflects to improve teaching practices (SACE, 2019).
B. Instances of Professionalism by Mr Dlamini
1. Commitment to Learner Success:
Mr Dlamini demonstrated professionalism by voluntarily offering after-school
tutoring to help struggling learners prepare for exams. This reflects his dedication
to learner achievement and aligns with SACE’s principle of promoting the
academic development of all learners.

department. This initiative reflects professional growth and creativity, as outlined
