According to the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (2022), one in four young South Africans experiences symptoms of depression before the age of 24, yet most do not seek help due to stigma or lack of information. The project adopted a community psychology framework, emphasizing participation, empowerment, and social change (Seedat et al., 2021). By engaging young people directly in discussions about mental health, the project sought to promote self-awareness, reduce stigma, and foster supportive community networks.
