Demographic Assessment
Sentinel City is an interactive, online simulation that enable students to perform
community assessment through the website. Sentinel City has a population of 663, 862 (Sentinel
City, 2018) with four neighborhoods. These neighborhoods are the Nightingale Square, Acer
Tech Center, Casper Park District, and Industrial Heights. The neighborhood with the highest
population of 352, 643 is Casper Park District and the neighborhood with the lowest population
of 38, 855 is Industrial Heights (Sentinel City, 2018). The other two neighborhoods Acer Tech
Center has a population of 168, 390 and Nightingale Square has a population of 103,974
(Sentinel City, 2018). Overall, Sentinel City’s age percentage breakdown of population is as
follow: 2-yr growth 9.6%, under 5 years old 7.4%, under 18 years old 21.7%, and over 65 years
old 10.5% (Sentinel City, 2018). In addition, Sentinel City has 80.6% White, 10.4% Black or
African American, 2% American Indian and Alaskan native alone, 3.7% Asian alone, 0.2%
Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander alone, 3.1% two or more races, 31.5% Hispanic or
Latino, and 52.7% White alone, neither Hispanic nor Latino (Sentinel City, 2018). Nightingale
Square’s primary ethnicity is 81.3% White and secondary ethnicity is 3.7% Hispanic or Latino
(Sentinel City, 2018). Acer Tech Center’s primary ethnicity is 70.2% White and secondary
ethnicity is 13.77% Hispanic or Latino (Sentinel City, 2018). Casper Park District’s primary
ethnicity is 63% White and secondary ethnicity is 24% Hispanic or Latino (Sentinel City, 2018).
