Tahar is talking about his friend Mamed.

Mamed était petit avec les cheveux courts. Nous étions amis depuis
longtemps car il me protégeait contre un groupe de garçons horribles
devant le lycée.
Ma maison était dans le nord de la ville, près de la mer. La maison de Mamed
se trouvait à côté du lycée, à plus de vingt minutes à pied de chez moi.
Un jour, il m’a invité à prendre le goûter chez ses parents. Le pain venait
d’une boulangerie espagnole. Je l’ai trouvé délicieux. Chez moi, ma mère
faisait le pain et il était moins bon.
