Question One

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Code of Conduct outlines the

professional expectations of registered healthcare practitioners. This framework defines

professional behaviour and accountability (NMBA, 2018). Nursing practice relies on ethical

principles to maintain trust and credibility. Following such principles analysis is expected to

maintain credibility in all instances of care regardless of the prevailing circumstances. Upholding

professional integrity prevents misconduct that could harm patient welfare (NMBA, 2018).

Furthermore, clear ethical standards promote consistency across diverse clinical settings.

Following these guidelines can improve patient trust in healthcare and even improve the public

perception of the nursing profession. The ethical framework is closely linked to nurses’ legal

responsibilities in clinical practice.

The Code aligns with Australian healthcare laws which reinforce nurses’ legal

responsibilities. Compliance with regulations prevents breaches that could result in legal

consequences (NMBA, 2018). Nurses must follow mandatory reporting laws to safeguard

vulnerable populations. For instance, Section 1.3 of the Code (Mandatory Reporting) stipulates

caring for such groups and must act on welfare concerns where appropriate. Understanding legal

obligations reduces errors that may compromise patient safety.

The Code safeguards patient well-being and upholds high standards of care. Professional

accountability reduces risks while promoting optimal patient outcomes (NMBA, 2018).

Maintaining patient safety requires strict adherence to evidence-based clinical guidelines. Such

practice carefully incorporates the most reliable and up-to-date evidence (Ramage & Foran,
