ASSIGNMENT 4 2025

1. Name the two main Acts of legislation applicable when dealing with human
trafficking in South Africa. (2 marks)

The principal South African laws on trafficking are the Prevention and Combating of
Trafficking in Persons Act (Act No. 7 of 2013) often called the Trafficking Act and the
Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act (Act No. 32 of
2007), which criminalizes sexual exploitation including trafficking. These Acts establish
offences and penalties and set out victim-protection measures in our criminal justice
system.

2. Discuss practical ways in which victims of human trafficking can be better protected,
supported, and empowered by the South African criminal justice system.
