TBS Phase 2 Exam questions and
answers
Write the outline for a OpOrder -ANSReference Study guid
What would you use a star cluster for? -ANSSignaling (ie. CASEVAC, SHIFT FIRES,
CONSOLIDATION, etc.)
What are different types of PYROTECHNIC SIGNALS? -ANSa. Star clusters
b. Parachutes
c. Flares
If a target number is not assigned, you should develop your own target (True/False) -
ANSFalse (**Instead, you give target description: type (size/description of), degree of
protection, and whether the target is known, suspected, or likely)
5 Stages of Assault Support Planning -ANSStaging Plan, Loading Plan, Air Movement
Plan, Landing Plan, Ground Tactical Plan
LANDING PLAN Definition -ANSthe desired time, place, and sequence of arrival of
units.
Loading plan- -ANSestablish, organize, and control activities in the pickup zone (PZ),
plan for the movement of troops and equipment to the PZ, and establish the priority of
loading units
Staging plan- -ANSprescribes the arrival time of ground units (troops, equipment, and
supplies) at the PZ in the proper order for movement. Assign sticks to serials. Ground
units expected to be at the PZ 15 minutes prior to aircraft arrival.
Air movement plan -ANSthe control and protection of the assault support force during
the air movement. Specifies when and how troops, equipment, etc. will be transported
from the PZ to the LZ.
Ground Tactical Plan -ANSspecifies actions in the objective area, which accomplish the
mission. Capitalizes on the speed and mobility of the vertical assault.. The HUC is in
charge of planning this.
Assault Support Caps -ANSi. Attack enemy positions from any direction
ii. - Overfly or bypass barriers and obstacles and strike objectives in otherwise
inaccessible areas
iii. - Conduct deep attacks and raids beyond the forward line of our own troops
iv. - Rapidly concentrate, disperse, or redeploy to extend the area of influence
, v. - Provide responsive reserves allowing commanders to commit a larger portion of
their forces to action
vi. - Conduct fast paced operations over extended distances
vii. - Rapidly reinforce committed units
- Conduct night terrain flight with the use of night vision devices, which allows them to
locate a landing zone and land without illumination
Assault Support Limitations -ANSSevere weather, extreme heat and cold, and other
environmental conditions such as blowing snow and sand that limit flight operations,
aircraft lift capability, or flight visibility
Reliance on airborne communication
Reduced ground mobility once inserted
Limited accessibility to supporting arms, especially indirect fires
Increased logistical considerations (fuel, maintenance, spare parts, facilities, and aircraft
availability)
UH-1Y Venom PAX Capacity -ANS8 pax
MV-22B Osprey Pax Capacity -ANS24 Pax
CH-53E Super Stallion Pax capacity -ANS30 Pax
i. HF frequency Range -ANS1. Used for long distance comms when SATCOM
unavailable
2. 2-29.999 MHz
VHF frequency range -ANS30-89.999 MHz
UHF Frequency Range -ANS- LOS
- SATCOM
- Long range
- 221-511.999 MHz
PRC 117/SINCGARS/HIGH POWER -ANSVHF: 0-10 Km
UHF:
-LOS: 20 Km
-SATCOM: 22300 Km
PRC 152/SINCGARS -ANS1. Low Power: 200-400 m
2. Med Power: 400m-5Km
3. Max Power: 5-7 Km
PRC 150 -ANS1. HF: Indefinite
2. VHF: 0-10 Km
