Theory (6 marks)
In logistics, transport participants are the stakeholders who directly or indirectly

guide (TRL3707, Learning Unit 3), the key transport participants include:
1. Shippers (Manufacturers/Producers): They generate freight by producing
goods and thus initiate transport demand.
2. Consignees (Customers/Retailers): They receive goods and determine
delivery locations, times, and service expectations.
3. Carriers/Transport Service Providers: These are companies or individuals
responsible for physically moving goods via road, rail, air, or sea.
4. Government/Regulators: They influence transport through regulations,
infrastructure development, customs procedures, and enforcement of standards
(e.g., safety, weight limits).
5. Third-Party Logistics Providers (3PLs): These firms offer outsourced logistics
solutions such as warehousing, transportation, and route planning.
6. Financial Institutions and Insurers: They provide capital, credit facilities, and
risk coverage for cargo in transit.
7. Technology Providers: They supply digital platforms such as route optimisation
systems, GPS tracking, and fleet management software that affect transport
efficiency.
