Christmas carol

Plot

Stave one-The first thing we are told is that Marley was dead. Scrooge walks
down the path towards his counting house as dickens tells us about his
character describing him as As solitary as an oyster an as hard and sharp as
flint. When he gets to the counting house he is met with bob Cratchit who is
his assistant. Cratchit only has one piece of coal showing just how miserly
scrooge is. Scrooges’ nephew Fred visits inviting him to Christmas dinner but
scrooge refuses saying “what reason have you to be merry? Your poor
enough”. Then the portly gentlemen visit to ask scrooge if he could donate
some money to Chaity to which scrooge also refuses stating “are there no
prisons?” an “if they are to die, they should do it quickly to decrease the
surplus population”. Cratchit asks if he can have the day off on Christmas
and scrooge reluctantly agrees calling Christmas a “poor excuse for picking a
man’s pocket”. When scrooge gets home, he sees the face of Jacob Marley
on the door knocker “like a bad lobster in a dark cellar”. Scrooge gets a visit
from Marley who now carries a chain that he says, “I wear the chain I forged
in life”. Marley warns scrooge that he will end up like him in the afterlife if he
doesn’t change his ways and tells him he will be visited by three ghosts.
Scrooge goes to bed but is soon visited by the Ghost of Christmas past

Stave two- the first place the ghost takes him is back to his school when he
was the only child left at school over Christmas.” A solitary child, neglected
by his friends, is left there still. We then see scrooge’s little sister, Fran, come
into the room and tells scrooge that he can go home “home for ever and
ever” The ghost then takes him to his old workplace where we meet Fezziwig
who is foil to scrooge. He is setting up a Christmas party an everyone is
invite showing how generous he is “in they all came”. Fezziwig and his wife
then dance to the music. The last place the Ghost takes scrooge is to his
breakup with his fiancé who says, “another idol has replaced me” “a golden
one”. Showing that money has corrupted scrooge. And then we see Belle
with a new family who aren’t very rich but are happy
