A1. Competencies
The first competency in the WGU MBA program that supported my efforts in the
business simulation is Competency 3013.1.4: Marketing Strategy. This competency introduced
the concept of creating a new product and developing a strategic marketing plan for that product.
In my business simulation, marketing strategies involving the development of product
advertisements increased consumer interest in my bike products, with better ads leading to more
potential sales. The second competency that supported my business simulation is Competency
3015.1.2: Financial Statement Analysis. The tools learned from this competency allowed for a
better understanding of the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Statement of Cash Flows

growth of my business based on the analysis of those financial statements. The last competency
that supported my business simulation is Competency 3016.1.6: Management and Planning,
which is designed to develop an understanding of operations and inventory management
planning to achieve operating objectives. The simulation required thoughtful analysis of the
overall operations of my bike business to maintain inventory to meet demand without creating
risks for stockouts or over-production of products.
