Assignment 3
Due 2025
, Safety Management III B
1. Explain how a corporate’s image can be affected by accidents and injuries. (10)
An organization’s reputation is one of its most critical intangible assets because it
reflects how the public, clients, employees, investors, and the wider community perceive
the company. Workplace accidents or injuries can negatively influence this image in
several ways:
Negative Publicity: Media and social platforms quickly amplify news of
workplace incidents. If accidents are linked to poor safety standards, the public
may view the company as negligent or indifferent to worker welfare.
Erosion of Trust: Customers and business partners expect responsible
practices. Major accidents can reduce their confidence in the company’s integrity,
making them reluctant to associate with it.
Regulatory and Legal Stigma: Lawsuits, compensation claims, and regulatory
penalties following accidents often portray the company as non-compliant and
careless, further damaging credibility.
Employer Branding Impact: Job seekers may avoid applying to a company
perceived as unsafe, while current employees may leave for safer work
environments, affecting recruitment and retention.
Investor Concerns: Accidents can shake shareholder confidence, leading to
reduced investment and even declining stock value in listed firms.
Community Backlash: In cases where accidents cause environmental or
community harm (e.g., spills, construction hazards), relations with local
communities can deteriorate, weakening the company’s social standing.
In short, frequent or severe accidents can portray the business as unsafe and
irresponsible, ultimately diminishing its reputation, goodwill, and long-term sustainability.
2. How do accidents influence employee morale? (10)
