Bio 101 lecture note: Plant Cell, Animal Cell
and their differences.
THE CELL
Cells are the basic living units of organization of all living organisms.
This means every organism is made up of cells or cell products.
● Some organisms that are made of only one cell e.g, Amoeba,
Paramecium are called UNICELLULAR ORGANISMS
● Other organism made of many cells e.g. Humans, Plants are called
MULTICELLULAR ORGANISMS
Since there are two main groups of living organisms — Plants and Animals —
and they differ from one another then, the cells that compose their bodies must
also have differences.
THE PLANT CELL
Plant cells come in different types and sizes.
● They usually have a regular outline and fixed shape (rectangular,
polygonal, or cylindrical).
● They have a distinct cell wall (a rigid layer that is clearly visible and
separate from the inner membrane when viewed under a microscope)
