MEDICAL SCHOOL INTERVIEW QUESTIONS WITH ALL
CORRECT & 100% VERIFIED ANSWERS|LATEST
UPDATE|ACTUAL EXAM|ALREADY GRADED A+

WHY ST GEORGES? ✔Correct answer-- clinically focused and patient-centered degree
-shares the campus with a major teaching hospital
- early patient contact- from the first week of first year
-interprofessional learning- i think it is a big part of learning which prepares you to real life work. for
example before my radiography degree, i didn't know OPDs existed and how often i would encounter
them in my day to day life.

Talk about PBL, how St George's hospital is one of the largest in London, the fact that Tooting is very
multicultural and how St George's is a science-only university.

WHY MEDICINE? ✔Correct answer-I have always had an interest in medicine but during college i
wasn't too sure on it. So i applied to radiography and told myself if I still had an interest after the
degree then I would apply.

As a student, I always found myself asking questions about why patients were in certain conditions
and how they would be treated. Mostly, radiographers would respond with "it doesn't concern us or i
don't know".

Moreover, I would only see patients before their diagnosis and after their treatment, but i would
rarely get to see what happened in between. I would like to be able to see what happens in between
to get patients from a to b and i don't think radiography is the career for that.

I believe medicine will fulfill my desire of being involved in aspects of patient care that radiography
wouldn't.

WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM YOUR WORK EXPERIENCE? ✔Correct answer-Working as a
radiographer (both student and qualified), i was able to work with all patients (medical and surgical)
and of all ages.

I have learnt to adapt my communication depending on the age, condition, language skills etc of the
patient.

If I am xraying a paeds patient, I will crouch down to be at their eye level. I will directly ask them
questions such as their birthday (3 point ID check) or ask them where it hurts. By giving the patient
this sort of confidence, i feel it makes them more willing to move to get into certain positions for
certain xray views.

If i am x-raying a hard of hearing patient, I will remove my mask so that they can lip read. I will also
use more body language to make the experience easier for them and myself.

These are some tips that I picked up during my placement that I have carried onto my qualified
practice. I believe they allow me to communicate better with patients and make imaging them a lot
easier.

,WHY NOT RADIOGRAPHY? ✔Correct answer-As a student, I always found myself asking questions
about why patients were in certain conditions and how they would be treated. Mostly, radiographers
would respond with "it doesn't concern us or i don't know".

Moreover, I would only see patients before their diagnosis and after their treatment, but i would
rarely get to see what happened in between. I would like to be able to see what happens in between
to get patients from a to b and i don't think radiography is the career for that.

HOW HAVE YOU EXPERIENCES CONTRIBUTED TOWARDS PREPARING YOU FOR A CAREER IN
MEDICINE? ✔Correct answer-My degree in radiology has taught me a plethora of concepts that I
think would allow for a seamless transition into medicine.

As a result of my first-class grade, I have in-depth knowledge of skeletal anatomy, human body
systems and many pathologies - I can identify various pathologies in radiographs and CT images.

Many healthcare professionals don't work with such a range of patients and clinicians, so I believe
my experience as a radiographer has built the perfect foundation for medicine.

Mentoring students is a big part of radiography; over time, I have significantly improved my
leadership skills and teaching ability.

WHAT PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES DID YOU DEVELOP DURING YOUR WORK EXPERIENCE? ✔Correct
answer-I lacked confidence when dealing with younger patients - to improve this, I volunteered at a
nursery which allowed me to improve my communication skills. Volunteering at the nursery has
taught me how to react and respond when children are crying and not willing to cooperate. When I
was a first year student, once a patient started crying, I would just look at the radiographer
supervising me and step back. But after a few weeks of working in the nursery, I learnt tips and tricks
to get children to cooperate more.

I now crouch to get to their eye level. I ask them questions directly. I explain everything that is going
on and what I will do. I will explain that I won't touch them at all and they can do all the moving
themselves. By communicating every step, the child will have more confidence that I will not hurt
them and will be more willing to move.

WHAT AREA(S) OF MEDICINE ARE YOU INTERESTED IN? ✔Correct answer-The areas of medicine
that I am interested in are Radiology, emergency medicine and anaethesiology.

Radiology is my background therefore it is my comfort zone. My degree in radiology has taught me a
plethora of concepts that I think would allow for a seamless transition into radiology.

Emergency medicine has always interested me. I like the fast paced nature and the unpredictable
cases that you can get in ED.

I also have a keen interest in anesthesiology. There are so many areas of anaethesiology that I did not
know exsisted.

But nothing is set for sure. I would like to explore as many specialities as I can. And maybe something
else will catch my attention.

, HOW DO YOU COPE WITH STRESS? ✔Correct answer-I cope with stress by going to the gym.
Especially after a stressful day at work, the gym really helps. When i am there I don't think about
anything other than what i am doing in that moment.

The gym gives me an escape from any stress and lets my mind reset so that I can think clearly and
make any decisions with a clear mind.

WHEN DID YOU DECIDE YOU WANTED TO STUDY MEDICINE? ✔Correct answer-As i was nearing the
end of my third year placement, i made the decision to apply to medicine.

WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES FACING THE HEALTH SERVICE? ✔Correct answer-It is
definitely the lack of staffing all over the NHS. This is something that i have witnessed a student and
as a qualified radiographer.

Staff are overworked and underpaid. The COVID-19 pandemic has created a big backlog which still
affects hospitals to this day.

Lists are now double maybe triple the amount they used to be before the pandemic to catch up with
the backlog. For example, MOPs used to have 3-4 patients in the morning but now 10 plus patients
will get booked in. Although this does help catch up with the backlog, it is not healthy for staff to be
working like that on a daily basis.

IN WHAT WAY HAVE YOU SHOWN YOUR COMMITMENT TO STUDYING MEDICINE? ✔Correct
answer-There are three main ways that I have shown my commitment to medicine.

The first would be that I have watched surgeries such as Cornary artery bypass graft. (CABG) in my
free time as I wanted to see more than just the cases which required x-ray. I have also spent a few
days in hybrid theatres at SGH, where I saw a few limb amputation surgeries. As radiographers, we
don't get to see cases like this, so it was a very valuable experience for me.

The second is if there is time, I will ask surgeons and doctors any questions that I have about the
cases that we are on. They are more than happy to educate me. For example, I was doing. Faxitron
case where the breast tissue was green (first time i saw that). As the surgeon came into the
anesthetic room to have a look at the image, i asked them why it was green. He explained to me that
it was due to a magnetic dye that they had previously injected into the patient. Everyday I learn little
bits of knowledge like this for which I am super grateful.

The final way is that i have learnt to balance academic work, work and extracurricular activities. I
understand that medicine involves life long learning and it may not always be easy to have a good
work life balance- which is something that initially put me off medicine. However after starting full
time work, I have come to appreciate the importance of having this balance. I have tackled this my
planning my time well- even if I am working a shift on that day. I also give my self days off to just rest.
Even if I don't do anything, I know that I am doing something beneficial for my body and mental
health.

WHY DID YOU CARRY OUT YOUR WORK EXPERIENCE IN THAT PARTICULAR AREA? ✔Correct
answer-I carried out most of my work experience in the Radiology department as it meant that I got
to work with all patients and also got to work very closely with doctors. Many healthcare
professionals don't work with such a range of patients and clinicians, so I believe my experience as a
radiographer has built the perfect foundation for medicine.
