QUESTION 1
Explain how the behavioural profile could fill information gaps in a financial
profile
.
A behavioural profile complements a financial profile by offering deeper insights into
an individual’s lifestyle, decision-making patterns, social networks, and habits. These
insights help reveal inconsistencies that may not be evident from financial data alone.
Financial records often contain gaps, such as unexplained asset acquisitions,
concealed income streams, or hidden transactions, which may escape detection if
assessed in isolation. Behavioural analysis addresses these gaps by examining non-
financial factors such as spending patterns, travel histories, and associations with
high-risk individuals.
Such behavioural indicators may suggest illicit activities, including fraud, corruption, or
money laundering. For instance, if an individual’s declared financial records indicate
modest earnings but their lifestyle demonstrates luxury consumption, international
travel, or unusual risk-taking, this discrepancy is a strong signal of concealed income
sources. By linking observable behaviours with financial anomalies, investigators
reduce the likelihood of false positives and strengthen the evidentiary foundation of
fraud detection.
