SEMESTER 2_2025

, QUESTION 1

Definition
A professional teacher is a qualified and registered educator who applies specialised
knowledge and pedagogical skills with integrity, maintains ethical conduct in all
professional duties, and is committed to lifelong learning to promote effective
teaching, learner development, and the advancement of society (Hargreaves &
Fullan, 2012).

Agree/Disagree
I agree with this definition.

Reason 1
The SACE Code of Professional Ethics makes it clear that teachers must behave in
a manner that upholds the dignity of the profession and avoids any conduct that
could damage its reputation (SACE, 2018:7). The definition’s emphasis on integrity
and ethical conduct aligns directly with this expectation.

Reason 2
The SACE Code also requires that teachers respect learners’ dignity, individuality,
and constitutional rights, guiding them to achieve their potential (SACE, 2018:4). The
definition reflects this by focusing on learner development and the duty to serve both
the learner and society.

QUESTION 2

Scenario 1 [5]

Stance: Not professional.
Reason 1: Storing alcohol on school premises during school hours breaches the
SACE Code, which prohibits possession of intoxicating substances within the school
environment (SACE, 2018:7).
Reason 2: Such conduct undermines public trust in teachers and can create a
negative image of the school within the community (SACE, 2018:5).
