Othello Final Copy:

Act 1 Scene 1:
-Roderigo has paid lots of money to Iago to help him win over Desdemona, but he
realises that Othello has eloped with her.
-Iago reassures Roderigo that the hate towards Othello is mutual, as he missed out
on promotion.
-Roderigo and Iago both go to Brabantio’s house claiming that Othello has been
sleeping with Desdemona. Brabantio is very upset, claiming that Desdemona was
stolen by “magic”

Act 1 Scene 2:
-Iago tells Othello that Brabantio is about to ruin his relationship, and that Roderigo
was saying such foul things about Othello- he doesn’t care much
-Cassio and Duke’s servants beckon Othello- he is needed as Cyprus is under threat
of attack by Turkish fleets.
-Brabantio is so angry at Othello, and orders his men to seize him. He doesn’t care,
and the 2 of them go to the Duke to talk of military arrangements.
Act 1, Scene 3:
-Duke meets with senators and discuss ways to repel Turkish attack on Cyprus.
-Brabantio enters with Othello and orders them to deal with how Othello has
corrupted Desdemona.
-Othello denies this but says that she was enchanted by his stories. Desdemona
attests to this, and highlights that she is under Othello’s duty rather than Brabantio,
just how her mother was. Brabantio gives up his grudge on Othello.
-Duke suggests that Desdemona stays in Venice, but she is allowed to accompany
Othello to Cyprus. Desdemona is left under Iago’s care for the time being.
-Roderigo is so hopeless as he thinks he cannot win over Desdemona, and says he
wants to drown himself. Iago makes fun of this, but says to follow the others to
Cyprus, and will help him- just to extort him of money.
-Iago has a soliloquy where he says he hates Othello, and how there are rumours
that he has slept with Emilia. He also declares that he is extorting Roderigo, and
states how we will convince Othello that Cassio is having an affair with Desdemona
to get lieutenant. He also says how Othello has a “free and open nature”- believes
everything he sees.
Act 2, Scene 1:

, -Montano, the governor at Cyprus, watches the storm and states how the Turkish
fleet could not have possibly survived the storm. Cassio is scared that Othello may
be lost at sea.
-Desdemona’s ship arrives at Cyprus- she is scared that Othello may be lost as
Cassio’s ship lost contact, but his ship is soon spotted.
-Iago and Desdemona banter, but Iago generalises all women as sex-starved and
deceptive. Desdemona defends women but is clearly amused.
-Cassio takes Desdemona’s hand- Iago notice this and will be enough to “ensnare as
great a fly as Cassio”- his role will be stripped from him.
-Othello is happy and wants to celebrate by sleeping with Desdemona.
-Iago subtly hints to Roderigo that Des will leave Othello for Cassio, which makes
Roderigo jealous. He even says that Des loves Cassio, as highlighted by the gesture
of courtesy by Cassio. Iago convinces Roderigo to cause a fight with Cassio. Iago
delivers his second soliloquy
Act 2, Scene 2:
-Othello has called for a night of celebration to celebrate his marriage and the
annihilation of the Turkish fleet.
Act 2, Scene 3:
-Othello places Cassio in charge of the party, preventing any rowdiness. Cassio is
made drunk by Iago, and Cassio then claims that he is not drunk. Iago talks to
Montano about Cassio’s “drinking problem”, saying that he might not be able to
handle the responsibilities. Iago sends Roderigo to pick a fight with Cassio.
-Cassio chases Roderigo onstage, but Montano notes that Cassio is drunk. The latter
is very offended by this, and fights with him. Iago sends Roderigo to raise an alarm.
Cassio injures Montano. Othello is summoned and breaks up the fight.
-Iago says it pains him to harm Cassio but speaks the truth. Othello dismisses
Cassio as a result.
-Cassio despairs at his lost reputation, and how a “bestial” part of him remains. Iago
consoles him, reminding him that reputation is gotten with a lot of effort and lost so
easily. He promises to help get his position back.
-Iago delivers another soliloquy. Roderigo becomes angry that he has been beaten
up by Cassio and forced to give much money to Iago but does not have Des. Iago
tells him to be patient. Iago outlines to the audience that he will set up a meeting
between Des and Cassio, and make Othello observe.
Act 3, Scene 1:
-Cassio hires musicians to play under Othello’s window to regain his favour, but
Othello sends down a clown to mock the musicians away. Cassio gives the clown
