Erikson's stages of psychosocial development - ✔✔ANS eighth stages o

before successfully transitioning to the next stage of development.
Trust vs. Mistrust - ✔✔ANS birth to 18 months. Trust is the successful outcome
of this stage; mistrust is the unsuccessful outcome. The developmental tasks
for infants are to form an attachment with and develop trust in their primar
caregiver-and then generalize those bonds to others.
Achieving the tasks of this stage results in self-confidence and optimism tha
caregivers will meet the infants' basic needs. Non-achievement leads to
suspiciousness and struggles with interpersonal relationships.
, Autonomy vs. shame and doubt - ✔✔ANS 2 to 3 years. Autonomy is the
successful outcome of this stage; shame and doubt are the unsuccessfu
outcome. During this stage, toddlers begin to develop a sense o
independence, autonomy, and self-control.
Achieving the tasks of this stage results in self-control and voluntary delaying
of gratification. Non-achievement leads to anger with self, a lack of self
confidence, and no sense of pride in the ability to perform tasks.
Initiative vs. guilt - ✔✔ANS 3 to 6 years. Initiative is the successful outcome o
this stage; guilt is the unsuccessful outcome. During this stage, children look
for new experiences but will hesitate when adults reprimand them or restric
them from trying new things.
Achieving the tasks of this stage results in assertiveness, dependability
creativity, and personal achievement. Non-achievement leads to feelings o
inadequacy, defeat, guilt, and the belief that they deserve punishment.
Industry vs. inferiority - ✔✔ANS 7 to 12 years.Industry is the successfu
outcome of this stage; inferiority is the unsuccessful outcome. During this
stage, children need to receive recognition for accomplishments to provide
reinforcement and build self-confidence.
Achieving the tasks of this stage results in feelings of competence, self
satisfaction, and trustworthiness in addition to increased participation in
activities and taking on more responsibilities at school, home, and the
community. Nonachievement leads to feelings of inadequacy and the inabilit
to compromise or cooperate with others.
Indentity vs. role confusion - ✔✔ANS 12 to 20 years. Identity is the successfu
outcome of this stage; role confusion is the unsuccessful outcome. During
this stage, adolescent try to figure out where they fit in and what direction thei
life should take.
