5.1 List and describe the four categories of media (resources) to teach
Business Studies. Provide your own examples!




Business Studies teachers are encouraged to use a variety of media to make learning
meaningful and practical. The four main categories of media are:


1. Publications
These are printed or digital texts such as textbooks, business magazines, newspapers,
journals, and study guides. Publications are the most common and foundational
teaching resources.


Example
Using a Grade 10 Business Studies textbook to explain the concept of supply and
demand, or giving learners a business article from Business Day to read and
summarise.


2. Products
Products include visual and physical teaching aids such as posters, models, videos,
charts, graphs, business cards, infographics, or equipment used in business
operations. These offer learners iconic experiences, helping them visualise concepts.


Example
A teacher shows learners a video of a production line in a factory to demonstrate how
the production function works or uses a poster illustrating the stages of
entrepreneurship.
