A. E-Learning
The topic of this e-learning experience is “the Dangers of Vaping”.
This is a lesson designed for ninth grade health students and
increases awareness of the health risks that come with vaping, while
empowering students to make healthy decisions. This will be delivered
using a combination of video content, readings, interactive activities
and assessments with a learning management system like Google
Classroom. The ninth graders will work independently and in small
groups to examine the physical, emotional, and social consequences of
vaping. They will learn about addiction, lung damage, peer pressure,
and misinformation that is spread throughout social media. The goal
is to build critical thinking and personal advocacy skills around
tobacco prevention.
The learning goal is for students to understand the health risks of
vaping and evaluate how it can affect one’s physical, emotional, and
social wellbeing.
Learning objectives:
1. Students will be able to identify at least three health consequences
of vaping.
2. Students will analyze how media and peer influence affect
decisions related to vaping,
3. Students will create a personal or group response plan to resist
peer pressure related to vaping.
This e-learning experience aligns with the National Health Education
Standard 1 (students will comprehend concepts related to health
promotion and disease prevention to enhance health) and Standard 2
(Students will analyze the influence of their family, peers, culture,
media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors).
B. Formative Assessment
One of the learning objectives is for students to analyze how media
and peer influence affect decisions related to vaping. A formative
assessment that goes with this objective is a short discussion activity
in which students will review three different social media posts
related to vaping and respond to questions in a shared class Padlet
board. Students will identify any misleading messages, persuasive
