Agenda Item 2.2: Possible Ways of Getting Adequate Water Supply in the Township
The meeting commenced with the Chairperson, Ms. Tancred, acknowledging the community's
distress regarding poor service delivery, specifically the persistent lack of adequate water
supply.
Mr. Muzila, the Deputy Chairperson, provided an update on the ongoing water crisis. He
informed the attendees that the Civic Organisation had engaged with Mr. Malatjie, the
Municipal Manager, and Comrade Vusani, the Ward Councillor, on multiple occasions,
including meetings held on 30 May 2023 and 25 June 2024.
During these engagements, the municipality had promised to construct two reservoirs and
connect a main pipeline from the Naledi dam to supply water to the township, with
construction slated to begin on 01 November 2024. However, Mr. Muzila confirmed that these
promises remained unfulfilled, and no progress had been made.
Following this update, a strong sentiment of frustration and anger was expressed by a resident,
Mevrou Steyn, who highlighted the perceived irresponsibility of the leadership. Mevrou Steyn
suggested an indefinite strike to render the municipality ungovernable.
The discussion underscored the community's deep dissatisfaction with the lack of action from
municipal authorities despite repeated promises.
