P4. Explain how national initiatives promote anti-discriminatory practice.

LEGISLATION:
CHILDREN ACT 1989, 2004

Children are young vulnerable human beings who are
in the process of growth and are very dependent to
their family. They rely on those who are older than them
to look out for them and keep them safe in order to live
and grow into a well and healthy adult. They are the
hope of the future that will continue the legacies of the
older generation and will bring forth the opportunities
for the future children that will come. And these
children, just like Adults, also have rights. To preserve
their rights and keep them safe, the Children Act of 2004 was created on the year 1989 and
amended on 2004 was implemented.

The Children’s Act 2004 came about after the government published a green paper, every
child matters, for consultation in 2003. This act serves a purpose to protect and safeguard

Furthermore, this legislation also provides the vulnerable children a chance to be able to
grow safely into the community or wherever they are and be able to improve their lives by
putting their rights, interests and views into account.

In addition to that, This act was in itself a response to a formal inquiry after the failure of
Social and Health services led to the horrific death of Victoria Climbie at the hands of her

eye opener which allowed everybody to be aware and responsible for their actions and help
to maintain their children’s security to ensure that it won’t affect the children’s welfare.
