SOM2 WGU D295 Task 4 Designing Opportunities for Assessment and Feedback
This e-learning experience is a science/social studies mini-unit on beach
erosion for a first-grade class.
• The topic of the e-learning experience is beach erosion, as it applies to us
locally in the Delaware beaches area.
• This e-learning experience will contain plenty of visuals and interactives to
demonstrate how beach erosion occurs, the leading causes of beach erosion,
and some problem-solving opportunities for students to think about how to
prevent it.
• This e-learning experience will be geared towards the lower
elementary levels, specifically first grade.
• The learning goal is for students to discover the impact of erosion on local
beaches and problem-solve ways to fix it.
• The learning objectives are as follows:
Introduction: Create a beach model using a paint tray, sand, and
water. (Examples are below, but the concept is best attained using a paint
tray because it mimics the gradient of the ocean.)
1. Explain the process by which erosion occurs.
2. Research to determine why erosion occurs using cause and effect.
3. Research to determine ways to prevent erosion.
4. Propose a solution to lessen erosion of the Delaware beaches.
5. Determine two cause-and-effect situations related to the beach
erosion activity. The academic standards include:
Science:
K-2-ETS1-1. Ask questions, make observations, and gather information about
a situation people want to change to define a simple problem that can be
solved by developing a new or improved object or tool.
