D459 WGU - Intro to Systems Thinking and Applications Task 3.
Analysis of Complex Problems:
School of Education: The Dwindling Craft Cart
Part A1.
The key events observed in this case study consist of the teacher, Ms. Jackson, bringing art
supplies to her classroom and stocking the craft cart. Certain students would use more art
supplies than the rest of the class, which created a need for the cart to be restocked with supplies
by the teacher. This caused students to have disagreements over the supplies being limited and
minimal.
Some patterns that I noticed in the key events of this case study are that students would have
disagreements when there was a shortage of supplies, and they wanted to elaborate to get a
higher grade. This also puts a limit on the students' being able to get the full artistic experience,
as well as limiting their full potential of being creative.
A structure that explains the patterns in this case study is, the students wanting to use the art
supplies more frequently, which developed an increase in demand for the supplies. However,
there was a limited budget for the supplies, and it was quickly diminished. Once the art supplies
were limited, it caused conflict in the classroom. To dissolve the conflict and prevent
disagreements in the classroom, the teacher would try to restock the cart constantly.
