MODULE NAME: PSYCHOLOGY OF EDUCATION
ASSIGNMENT: 04
YEAR MODULE 2025
, QUESTION 1: PERSONAL REFLECTION ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)
USE
1.1 I have not made use of artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, Grammarly
AI, or Google Bard when completing my assignments. I prefer engaging with the
prescribed textbook and the PED3701 study guide to ensure that I develop a deeper
and more meaningful understanding of the academic content. As a student preparing
to become an educator, it is important for me to read, analyse and reflect on learning
materials with a critical mind rather than depending on external tools. By doing this, I
am able to improve my reading comprehension, academic writing, and ability to think
independently—skills which are essential in both my studies and future teaching
career.
1.2 Although I have not used AI tools myself, I am aware of how they operate and
understand how they can assist learners in various ways. From what I have
observed among my peers, these tools are mostly used for summarising long texts,
explaining complicated ideas in simple terms, and giving suggestions on how to
improve writing. While some students find AI useful for checking grammar or
simplifying academic articles, it is still up to the student to use the information
meaningfully and ensure it reflects their own understanding. The PED3701 study
guide also highlights the importance of constructing knowledge actively, where the
learner must engage with content to make sense of it within their context (PED3701
Study Guide, 2020: 1). Passive use of AI would undermine this process.
1.3 There are certainly aspects of AI that many students find appealing. One thing
that stands out is the immediate feedback these tools provide. For example, when a
student is stuck on a topic or unsure how to phrase something, an AI chatbot can
offer suggestions in seconds. This speed is helpful for students who study after
hours and may not have access to tutors. Also, AI tools can help organise thoughts
clearly or propose different ways of explaining concepts. For learners who struggle
with academic writing or English as a medium of instruction, AI can offer
reassurance and support. However, if overused, it may hinder one's ability to think
critically or develop one's own academic voice.
