STBY BUS is powered when the RAT is deployed through the static inverter. Our DC
batteries can power this since the DC ESS BUSES are being energizing through the
ESS TRU, powered by the RAT, which stops them from discharging.
What purposes do a TRU serve? - ANSWER Convert AC to DC power. Three TRUs
convert 115V AC into 28V DC.
How long can batteries supply essential loads? - ANSWER 10 minutes
What kind and how many batteries does the E175 have? - ANSWER 2 Sealed Lead-
Acid batteries, 24V, 28 Amp hour to power up the airplane and as a backup for the DC
essential electrical system
How are the batteries charged? - ANSWER ANY AC source through the TRUs,
including the AC GPU and the RAT
What is the difference between OFF and DISC on either IDG selector? - ANSWER
OFF: Opens the IDG contactor isolating the IDG from the respective AC bus
DISC: Mechanically disconnects the IDG (must be held in position for one second)
