Group Work Proposal
Module Code: SAW1504
Assignment 02
Target Group: Adolescents (13–18 years)

1. Abstract

This group proposal is the presentation of the education support group that
will work with adolescents between 13 and 18 years of age that are stressed
about academics and careers. The group seeks to enable a learner by
providing him or her with self-understanding, study techniques and survival

, measures under emotional pressures and ensure mental balance and
academic performance. This will also take the form of weekly staying with the
group at the Ubuntu Youth Development Centre in a total of 8 sessions
facilitated by social workers and educators.

2. Aim and Objectives

Aim:
To support adolescents in managing academic pressures and making
informed career choices.

Objectives:

 Gain self-development and confidence in strengths and interests.
 Teach positive study skills and positive time management.
 Give stress and anxiety coping techniques regarding studies.
 Promote peer group support and good communication skills.

3. Rationale for Forming the Proposed Group

This pressure is too much on many youths concerning their grades and career
promotions, and many of them get this pressure without being advised on the
right way and materially being advised on how to get the right emotions. This
community offers an organized environment that allows learners to discover
these problems as a community and it helps them avoid being dropped out,
anxiety, and poor decision making.

4. Agency Sponsorship

Agency Name: Ubuntu Youth Development Centre
Vision: Empowering youth to achieve their full potential through education
and support.
Mission: To provide accessible and holistic programs addressing youth
developmental needs.
Resources: The centre has a well-equipped conference room, stationery,
computers, and trained staff including two social workers and one career
coach.
Location: Soweto, Johannesburg

5. Membership

The selection of the adolescents that will occupy the group will be adolescents
aged 13 to 18 years studying in local high schools based on the referral by
school social workers and teachers because they were observed to
experience academic or emotional problems.
