The organization that I will be discussing in this paper is Planet Fitness, as I worked at a local
Planet Fitness gym and participated in the complete opening of a brand-new gym in the franchise as
well. I will be discussing the organizational culture within my branch of Planet Fitness as well as how it
correlated with my results from the Big Five Personality Assessment. This organization will provide the
best example of how my personal leadership style meshed so well with an organization due to how
Planet Fitness operated and the environment it created for both employees and customers.
Planet Fitness’ Mission and Vision
Planet Fitness’ mission statement is “to enhance people’s lives by providing a high-quality fitness
experience in a welcoming, non-intimidating environment, which we call the Judgement Free Zone,
where anyone – and we mean anyone – can feel they belong.” Planet Fitness’s vision is to provide a
unique environment in which anyone can be comfortable. Both the mission and the vision statements
speak volumes to what you would expect to experience with their organizational culture. But is what
you experience? Speaking for myself of course, the answer is “Yes. Absolutely, yes.” I experienced a
great work culture during my time employed at Planet Fitness, even in the high-pressure environment
we were working in while opening a whole new franchise branch in Aberdeen, North Carolina, literally
from the ground-up. We were working with deadlines, budgets, new employees, training, new
equipment, advertising, new management, so on and so forth, pretty much everything was new. You
would imagine that this would have made my job stressful during this time, but in all actuality, the work
culture that was created by our hand-picked team, made things go very smoothly the entire time. Every
team member that was being hired for the new gym had to be trained at an existing facility in another
town for 2-6 weeks, depending on your position. This ensured that everyone would know their job and
how to operate a fully functioning Planet Fitness gym once the doors opened. Even though I had to drive
almost two hours to get to my temporary gym that I was being trained at, my boss worked with me on
