, Kingship:
“heat oppressed brain”- Act 2 Scene
1- soliloquy-oxymoron- how it links to
kingship: Macbeth’s desire for power
and kingship has completely
destroyed Macbeth, not physically
but mentally. He has become a weak
person all for his desire to become
king. There is a double meaning here;
when Macbeth kills Duncan, it shows
how much he sacrificed to become
king. The Great Chain of Being- the
king was chosen by God. Macbeth
killing Duncan breaks the Great Chain
of Being. This resulted in his divine
punishment and suffering since his
method was an unnatural way of
becoming king.
“something wicked this way comes”-
how it links to kingship: The king is
supposed to be God’s man on earth.
Macbeth has ruined the idea of
kingship since Macbeth is described
as wicked and evil. Here, the king is
no longer a symbol of justice but
instead a symbol of the devil.
Macbeth was not the rightful heir to
the throne and nor was Macbeth
subservient.
