A. Analyze the internal organizational aspects of the company from
the scenario by doing the following:
A1. Discuss in detail whether the organizational culture is an
advantage or disadvantage to the company and explain why.
Based on the Competing Values Framework (CVF), the Adhocracy culture best aligns
with the U.S. boat manufacturer's current organizational culture and goals. Adhocracy
cultures prioritize flexibility, innovation, and a readiness to take risks—qualities that are
deeply embedded in the company’s DNA. This culture supports the company’s
commitment to creative problem-solving, as shown by its unique product design,
sustainable mission, and decentralized structure that encourages employee contributions.
The focus on innovative, customer-driven design also resonates with the company's
planned expansion into India, where the founders aim to adapt their foldable fishing boat
to local needs by sourcing sustainable materials and working closely with local fishers.
Adhocracy culture fosters the agility needed to respond to these market-specific
challenges, allowing the company to maintain its emphasis on sustainability while
developing a product that meets India’s environmental standards. Embracing this culture
can also strengthen their ability to build partnerships with Indian stakeholders and secure
endorsement from regulatory bodies, positioning the company as a forward-thinking,
adaptable market entrant.
, A2. Discuss in detail whether the organizational structure is an
advantage or disadvantage to the company and explain why.
The company’s team-based network structure offers several advantages, especially as it looks
to expand into the Indian market. This structure encourages collaboration across different
departments, which fosters innovation and flexibility—key factors for a company focused on
sustainable, customer-driven design. The team-based approach allows employees to work
together on product development, ensuring that the foldable fishing boat meets the needs of
Indian fishers, and can quickly adapt to feedback. However, the structure also has its
challenges. There can be role ambiguity, as authority is distributed among teams, leading to
potential confusion or inefficiencies, especially in complex projects like market entry.
Coordination between teams in the U.S. and India could also be difficult, particularly with
cultural differences and time zone challenges. Additionally, resource allocation might
become an issue if multiple teams need the same resources at once. While decentralization
promotes innovation, it can also make it harder to maintain a unified global strategy. To
make this structure work for the Indian market, the company should clarify team roles,
strengthen communication between global teams, ensure resources are prioritized effectively,
and introduce centralized oversight for consistent global strategy. Overall, while the team-
based network structure promotes flexibility and innovation, adjustments will be necessary
to address these challenges as the company scales internationally.
A3. Describe in detail how each of the following organizational
aspects in the scenario influences how the company makes
strategic decisions: Task 1 Part A3 Video
a. organizational culture
The company’s organizational culture plays a key role in shaping its strategic
decisions, particularly as it expands into the Indian market. With a focus on
innovation, sustainability, and employee empowerment, the culture drives product
design and market entry. The company’s commitment to sustainability influences
decisions to use recycled plastics and align with local regulations. Empowering
employees to contribute to decision-making ensures that insights from local teams
and fishers are integrated into the product design. The culture fosters collaboration,
allowing the company to adapt quickly, stay customer-focused, and support its long-
term growth goals, making it crucial for successful market entry into India.
