QUESTION 1: POETRY ANALYSIS
1.1 Common theme
Both poems talk about the environment and how people affect it. They show that nature
is suffering because of what people are doing, like pollution and not caring for the earth.
The poems want us to think about how our actions hurt the planet and how we must
take care of it before it’s too late. They both show that the connection between humans
and nature is important and must be respected.
1.2 Selected lines and their explanation
Poem A: “The earth cries in silence beneath our feet.” This line shows that the earth is
hurting, but people are not listening. The earth is not making noise, but it is suffering
because of pollution and damage. The personification of the earth crying makes us feel
sympathy and realize that the planet is in pain.
Poem B: “We plant the seeds, then walk away.” This line tells us that people often start
good actions, like planting trees or making eco-friendly plans, but they do not continue
to take care of those efforts. It shows that starting something is not enough—we have to
continue to protect and help the earth.
1.3 Comparison and contrast in the structural features of poem A and B
Poem A does not have a regular structure. It is written in free verse, meaning it has no
rhyme or fixed rhythm. This gives it a more serious and urgent tone. The long lines
without punctuation create a flowing feeling, showing how the problems of the
environment are ongoing and overwhelming. For example, a line like “Oceans swell with
our carelessness” creates a strong image and sounds emotional.
Poem B has a regular ABAB rhyme scheme and a clear rhythm, which makes it easier
to read and remember. The short lines, like “We plant the seeds, / then walk away, /
hoping that sun / will light the way,” give it a steady pace. This structure is more suitable
for young learners, as it sounds like a song or a chant. Poem A uses abstract images
like “the world chokes on fumes,” which is more complex. Poem B uses simple,
