Succession –
 Welcomed as a breath of fresh air after the Sinister atmosphere
of Empson and Dudley. However, had no previous experience

 This prompted a renewed interest in governing through the
council, and for two lengthy periods he was reliant on chief
ministers.


The legacy of Henry VIII –
 Inherited 4 significant things – A £300,000 will, unpopular
mechanisms for extracting money, a peaceful foreign policy,
and a conciliar form of government.
 All of these would disappear throughout the early years of his
reign. The money he had inherited vanish through aggressive
foreign policy. Conciliar government would vanish as a result of
the rise of Wolsey.
