Question 1
1.1 Define the following terms with examples using your own words.
1.1.1 Remedial
In an educational context, "remedial" refers to instructional interventions or strategies
designed to address and correct specific learning difficulties or gaps in understanding
that a student may be experiencing. Its primary goal is to provide targeted support to
help learners overcome academic challenges, enabling them to reach a foundational
level of proficiency in a particular subject or skill. This approach is distinct from
enrichment, focusing specifically on identified areas of weakness.
Example: A Grade 3 learner consistently struggles with basic addition and subtraction.
A remedial intervention might involve one-on-one sessions using concrete
manipulatives to re-teach number concepts, focusing on specific counting strategies
and problem-solving techniques until the learner demonstrates mastery of these
fundamental operations.
1.1.2 Coherent
Coherence, in communication, refers to the logical and understandable connection of
ideas, sentences, and paragraphs within a written or spoken text, creating a unified and
easily digestible whole. It ensures that all parts of a message flow smoothly and
logically from one point to the next, making the overall meaning clear and accessible to
the audience. This is achieved through logical sequencing, consistent themes, and the
effective use of transitional devices.
