Question 1: Planning the Integration of Digital Technology in Teaching
[20 Marks]
Lesson Title: Understanding Plant Life Cycles (Grade 6 Natural Sciences)
Digital Technology Used:
The main digital technology integrated into this lesson will be interactive simulations
and digital concept mapping using the PhET Interactive Simulations platform
(https://phet.colorado.edu) and MindMup, a free web-based mind-mapping tool.
Learners will use PhET simulations to observe virtual models of plant growth and
photosynthesis, and MindMup to construct concept maps showing the plant life cycle
stages and related concepts (e.g., photosynthesis, pollination, seed dispersal).

Learners will use PhET simulations to observe virtual models of plant growth and
photosynthesis, and MindMup to construct concept maps showing the plant life cycle
stages and related concepts (e.g., photosynthesis, pollination, seed dispersal).
Integration of Digital Technology:
PhET simulations will serve as a visual and interactive tool to enhance conceptual
understanding of biological processes. These simulations allow learners to manipulate
variables such as light and water levels and observe effects on plant growth in real time.
MindMup will be used as a collaborative platform where students visually organise and
link concepts after engaging with the simulation. The digital tools not only deliver
content but encourage exploration and knowledge construction, aligned with
constructivist learning theory.
Planning for Effectiveness:
To ensure effectiveness, the lesson will be broken into structured phases:
1. Introduction (10 minutes): Brief class discussion using a digital whiteboard
(Jamboard) to brainstorm prior knowledge on plants.
