Competencies Gained from Assessment 2 (5 Marks):
Completing Assessment 2 allowed me to develop a solid understanding of ethical
behaviour within the workplace, particularly in the context of labour relations. I gained
insight into identifying ethical challenges and the importance of consistently applying
values such as integrity, fairness, and respect. The assessment deepened my
awareness of how ethical practices contribute to building trust, fostering collaboration,
and maintaining healthy employer-employee relationships.
Competencies Gained from Assessment 3 (5 Marks):
Assessment 3 provided me with a clearer understanding of the legal and procedural
aspects of dismissals in the workplace. I developed the ability to assess whether a
dismissal is fair by considering both substantive and procedural requirements.
Additionally, I learned about the legal obligations surrounding retrenchments, including
the need for genuine consultation and consideration of alternatives. This assessment
strengthened my capacity to evaluate and manage termination processes in line with
labour legislation.
Application in the Workplace (4 Marks):
The competencies acquired from both assessments are directly applicable in a
professional labour relations context. As a future practitioner, I will apply this knowledge
to promote fairness and legal compliance in disciplinary and dismissal processes. I will
also advocate for ethical decision-making and provide guidance to both employers and
employees. These skills will enable me to resolve disputes effectively, reduce workplace
tension, and contribute to a more just and respectful work environment.
