Term/s Definition/ discription
Device Drivers Programs that allow operating systems to communicate with and
control hardware devices.
DIMMS Thin rectangular electronic boards which contain banks of RAM chips.
Laser printer A printer that works by melting toner into the paper.
Peripherals Devices connected to the computer.
Router A device that makes it possible for networks to communicate over the
Internet by directing data to its correct destination.
Optical Storage Stores data by means of laser.
Motherboard A large electronic circuit board with slots and connectors for attaching
different components and peripherals.
Synchronise The process of getting two sets of the same data files on two different
devices updated with the latest copy of the file(s).

computers and technology and people that do not

Lumens A factor that measures the brightness of the projector.
3D printer A printer of objects, printed by laying down successive layers of
material until the object is created.
Digital divide The growing gap between people with access to digital technology and
those without access.
Creative Commons These licenses allow other people to copy and use digital creations,
such as images, videos and sounds, if they follow certain rules.
Online piracy Downloading proprietary software illegally from the internet.
USB Computer port designed to allow many different peripheral types to
connect via one port.
HDMI A digital video and audio port on a computer for video output devices
to connect to.
System software System software directs the operation of a computer and controls and
works with the computer hardware
Application software Application software is a computer program designed to help the user
perform an activity

software, is computer software for which the software’s publisher or
another person reserves some licensing rights to use, modify, share
modifications, or share the software.
