Prompt
"Language designed to have a persuasive or impressive effect on its audience, but
often regarded as lacking in sincerity or meaningful content.
The art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of
figures of speech and other compositional techniques.
What do you think about it? What is one of the readings that have jumped out to
you? Why has it jumped out to you? Does it make you think about a specific
theme(s)? Why or why not?
I'd like for you to begin to brainstorm on the topic of rhetoric. In this, I'd simply
like you to do a Free-write on the topic of Rhetoric. What does this mean?
Simply, you need to write for a set period (10 minutes) and don't take your hands
off of the keyboard. If you come to a blank, just write "I am at a blank... blank...
blank space... space... JFK discusses space in his inauguration. Wasn't that promise
what helped jump the race to the moon? I heard that JFK's promise came before
America's understanding of how to actually achieve this promise. However, it
pushed us forward and forced America to meet that promise. How did he do that?
Did he use the phrase, 'we?'... etc. etc."
Obviously, this won't be a perfect example of your writing abilities. However, it
does allow you to begin thinking about the essay, and it allows me to see your
thought process.
