● April 1486 - tried to raise a rebellion, there was little support
because of the lack of pretender to rally around
● Henry hurries to York and sends his Uncle Jasper Tudor to the
countryside with a pardon for everyone except the Staffords
and Lovell. This drains all the support, the rebellion collapsed
when they heard that King was on his way with an army

Subsidiary Yorkist faction were dissatisfied by Henry VII’s treatment of
causes them - loss of lands and hope of preferement.

Richard Symonds (Oxford Priest) and then later, Irish Earl of
Leadership Kildare, Earl of Lincoln
● Simnel claims to be the Earl of Warwick and be the heir to
the throne. This is supported by the Earl of Lincoln.
● Jan 1487 - Simnel is crowned in Dublin and gains the Irish
Earl of Kildare’s support.
● Henry VII put the real Earl of Warwick on show but Yorkist
Detail on forces landed in Lancashire
the ● June 1487 Battle of East Stoke - Henry had 12,000 men,
rebellion rebels had 8,000 men (2000 German mercenaries- paid
for by Margaret of Burgundy- 4500 ill disciplined Irish
kerns, a small Yorkist force). Henry won.



● Simnel captured and spared but given a job in the King’s
kitchen
● Symonds is imprisoned for life
● Lovell escapes and is never heard of again
● Captured Irish troops were hung
