Question 1 (15 Marks)

1.1 Identify the key factors for successful project management? (5 Marks)

Defined Clear Scope

Establishing a project plan starts with defining the project scope. Studies indicate that
the most often cited obstacle to project success is a badly defined scope or goal (Buye,
2021). Project success is closely related to well defined scope. The scope is the
foundation for project planning; it defines precisely what is to be provided to the
customer (Heagney, 2016). Project goal, deliverables, milestones, technical
specifications, and constraints and exclusions are all important components of a scope
statement. Equally vital is a customer review to grasp and reach consensus on
expectations. Consistently, the lack of a well-defined project strategy appears as a key
cause of project failures.

i. Establishing Project Priorities (Time, Cost, Performance/Scope)

Traditionally, quality and final project success are described as meeting or exceeding
customer and/or senior management expectations in terms of cost, time, and
performance (scope) according to Levitt (2011). One of the main responsibilities of a
project manager is to balance time, cost, and performance trade-offs. Project
managers have to define and grasp the character of the project priorities and have an
open dialogue with the project customer and senior management to determine their
relative significance in order to accomplish this. Project success is measured by
compliance with these TCP (Time, Cost, Performance) criteria.0717513144

ii. Efficient Planning

A good plan starts success (Crawford, 2021). Establishing the project scope lays the
groundwork for this strategy. Project planning and control are based on correct
projections of project timelines and expenses. Traditional project management
techniques emphasise rigorous upfront planning. Defining every aspect via a Work
Breakdown Structure (WBS), seeing issues and hazards before the project starts,
estimating, allocating resources, and developing a baseline schedule and budget all
fall under this category.

iii. Effective Project Control
