ABAT 2025/2026 QUESTIONS WITH ANSWERS RATED A+ Behavior Intervention plan (BIP) - A plan that is based on the results of a functional behavioral assessment(FBA) and at minimum , includes a description of the problem behavior , hypothesis as to why the problem behavior occurs , intervention strategies that include positive behavioral supports. It includes proactive (antecedent) strategies and reactive (consequences) strategies. Target behavior - is the behavior that has been selected for change. If a parent would like their child to learn to eat with a fork, the :eating with a fork' is the target behavior. Operational definition - when applied to data collection, is clear, concise, detailed definition of a measure. The need for operational definitions is fundamental when collecting all types of data. It is important when a decision is being made about whether something is correct/occurrence or incorrect/ non- occurrence. ex: Mary will raise her hand and place it on her heart while turning toward the flag when saying the star spangled banner

ABAT 2025/2026 QUESTIONS WITH ANSWERS RATED A+
✔✔Behavior Intervention plan (BIP) - ✔✔A plan that is based on the results of a
functional behavioral assessment(FBA) and at minimum , includes a description of the
problem behavior , hypothesis as to why the problem behavior occurs , intervention
strategies that include positive behavioral supports. It includes proactive (antecedent)
strategies and reactive (consequences) strategies.

✔✔Target behavior - ✔✔is the behavior that has been selected for change. If a parent
would like their child to learn to eat with a fork, the :eating with a fork' is the target
behavior.

✔✔Operational definition - ✔✔when applied to data collection, is clear, concise, detailed
definition of a measure. The need for operational definitions is fundamental when
collecting all types of data. It is important when a decision is being made about whether
something is correct/occurrence or incorrect/ non- occurrence. ex: Mary will raise her
hand and place it on her heart while turning toward the flag when saying the star
spangled banner.

✔✔FBA - ✔✔A functional assessment is an approach to figuring out the clients' acts in
a certain way. It uses a variety of techniques to understand whats behind
inappropriate/maladaptive behavior. Knowing what s behind( the function of)
inappropriate behavior can help find ways to change the behavior. The basic idea
behind this approach is that the clients behavior serves a purpose. Whether they are
aware of it or not, the client acts a certain way to get a desired outcome or goal. step 1
defining the inap. behavior step2 collecting, comparing, and analyzing the info. sep 3
hypothesizing the reason for the b step 4 dev. a plan.

✔✔Escape function - ✔✔one of the 4 functions of behavior, to escape a known(implied)
or unknown(unimplied) demand. ex: every time the BI sits down and puts back back
down the client hides behind the couch. the unknown demand is that the BI will ask
client to sit down to run matching goals.

✔✔Attention focus - ✔✔one of the 4 functions of behavior, to gain attention from
someone. ex: client bangs head on floor in order for mother to run snd hold him.

✔✔Access function - ✔✔one of the 4 functions of behavior, to gain access to an item,
tangible, edible or action. the client will tantrum to gain access to bubbles.

✔✔automatic function - ✔✔one of the 4 behaviors, to receive internal reinforcement via
5 senses. ex: client will engage in rubbing his arm 30 times per day.

✔✔Antecedent interventions - ✔✔strategies used before the problem behavior occurs. (
premark, visual schedule, timers and countdowns...)

, ✔✔FCT - ✔✔Is a differential reinforcement DR procedure in which a client is taught an
alternative response that results in the same class of reinforcemntidentified as
maintaining the problem behavior. Problem behavior is typically placed on extinction(
reinforcement no longer follows prompt behavior.) FCT differs from other function based
DR procedures in that the alternative response is a recognizable form of communication
( vocalizations, manual sign)

✔✔Token economy - ✔✔is a system of contingency management based on the
systematic reinforcement of target behavior. The reinforcers are symbols "tokens" that
can be exchanged for reinforcers.

✔✔behavioral momentum - ✔✔is a behavioral metaphor based on the physical
momentum. The use of a series of high- probability requests to increase compliance
with lower-probability requests. It basically means to build up momentum to what you
really want the child to do, by thong out " easy" demands, that they are super likely to
do first. Ex; give me 5, hold hand close to the child. Thanks' tickle. stand in front of child
and stomp your feet while saying "stomp your feet" then : does "you are amazing" time
to go potty now, lets go.

✔✔Noncontigent reinforcement - ✔✔a powerful method to reduce problematic behavior.
NCR involves giving the client access to a reinforcer frequently enough that they are no
longer motivated to exhibit disruptive behavior to obtain that same reinforce.

✔✔replacement behavior - ✔✔is the behavior you want to replace an unwanted target
behavior ex: therapist prompt s and reinforces the client clapping his hands instead of
flapping hands.

✔✔Escape extinction - ✔✔Reinforcement provided by allowing escape from aversive
tasks is discontinue in order to decease or eliminate occurrences of problem behaviors.

✔✔Attention extinction - ✔✔reinforcement provided by attention seeking is discontinued
in order to decrease or eliminate occurrences of problem behavior

✔✔Access extinction - ✔✔reinforcement provided by a highly preferred item that is
discontinued in order to decrease or eliminate occurrences of problem behavior

✔✔extinction burst - ✔✔wi;; often occur when the extinction procedure has just begun .
this is usually consists of a sudden and temporary increase in the response's frequency,
followed by the eventual decline and extinction of the behavior targeted for the
elimination.

✔✔CRF - ✔✔occurs when reinforcement is delivered after every single target behavior.

✔✔Intermittent - ✔✔Occurs when reinforcement is delivered after some behaviors or
responses but never after each one
