Trends in Emerging Learning Technologies

Though there are many interes;ng emerging learning technologies, Ar;ficial Intelligence (AI) is the technology
most ubiquitous in schools and organiza;ons. In simple terms, AI is computer technology designed to perform
tasks like a human. Because of the human-like way that AI approaches tasks, there is an ongoing debate about
how AI should be ethically used in schools and classrooms. One of the more significant controversies involves
programs like ChatGPT being used to write for students instead of with them. However, AI has also been used
as a tool to assist students with brainstorming, organizing, and connec;ng ideas and as a personal tutor. AI is
evolving and s;ll finding its place in educa;on. With conversa;on, beXer AI development, professional
development around the many uses and benefits of AI, and making AI readily available to all popula;ons of
learners – the result will be a historical transforma;on in educa;on and how people learn.
