The Impact of Communications Technologies in Everyday Life
Technological advancements have influenced various parts of the world. The rise
of mass media and computing technology have given people access to a vast amount of
information. As we enter the new millennium, various elements of computers and
information technology have come so far as to become the foundation of day-to-day
, business and modern economy. Information technology is seen to be the driving force of
globalization that started around the middle of the eighteenth century and has continued
in ever-more complex networks, as countries and people have become more and more
reliant on each other to feed the mania of the modern lifestyle. However, a distinct
question appears within this sociological issue. Is Information technology of such
tremendous importance that it is infringing on the rights of individuals and groups of
people?
The advancements in smartphone technology have made it essential for the
average person to rely on their smartphone in their daily life. As of 2018, around two-
thirds of the global population are smartphone users. This number is even higher among
younger individuals in developed nations. For example, nearly 100% of 18 to 29-year-
olds in the United States use smartphones. Several factors have contributed significantly
to the role of smartphone technology in modern everyday life. Firstly, the device's
portability aligns well with the fast-paced and mobile nature of modern lifestyles.
