My name is Thando Mokoena. I am a first-year student at the University of South Africa
studying towards a degree in History and related disciplines.
Portfolio Purpose
The purpose of this Portfolio is to demonstrate my learning, research, and writing skills
acquired throughout the HSY1511 module. It also showcases how I have developed
analytical thinking and critical reflection while engaging with key historical themes
related to Africa and the world.
Course Overview
HSY1511 Course Objectives:
To gain an understanding of significant developments in the history of Africa and
the world from the 17th century to the early 21st century.
To acquire an appreciation of the critical place of Africa in the history of the
world.
To gain an understanding of some major themes in the history of Africa and the
world over the last four centuries, and to come to understand the important place
of Africa in these developments.
Develop an understanding of the historical roots of current African society,
acquire respect, appreciation and understanding of different societies, cultures
and points of view.
